I will be running the London Marathon on Sunday 24th April! I’m doing this to support PAN Intercultural Arts, a charity that works with vulnerable and socially disadvantaged young people through performances and workshops across the arts. It seems to me that not enough young people get access to participation in the arts and that the manifold benefits that this can have on a person’s life chances are not appreciated as they should be. My experience is that in private education it is viewed as self-evident that arts participation is a worthy endeavour in itself, but that it also teaches the skills needed to succeed in core academic subjects as well as how to live a better life. This philosophy seems to be under threat in state education. If you would like to support PAN by sponsoring me please go here.
You can find out more about PAN’s work at their website.
And a little training update: this week I’ve clocked 31 miles (though technological errors mean I can’t prove this!). Nothing hurts too much at the moment and I’m hoping things will stay that way. The gnarliest one was a 10-miler along the seafront from Marazion in Cornwall to Newlyn and back, in the middle of storm Katie – never run in hail before!
